Only two weeks have passed since the updated workers’ comp medical fee schedule took effect on July 1, 2015, so it’s too early to assess the impact the new fees will have on access to care for injured workers. The prognosis is good, however. The new fees likely will remove hesitation doctors may have had in the past when faced with fees that were set circa 1995. The North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS) was instrumental in modernizing this fee schedule and raising North Carolina’s ranking among other states with workers’ comp medical fee schedules. In this letter to members, NCMS President Robert E. Schaaf, MD, FACR, describes how your Medical Society achieved this long-sought change and its potential impact on your practice.
