Reporting Car Accident Caused by Seizure or Coma

nc-stampHB 653 – Report/Car Accident Caused by Seizure or Coma

Primary Sponsors: Rep. Josh Dobson (R – McDowell), Rep. Nelson Dollar (R – Wake), Rep. John Torbett (R – Gaston)

This bill would require accident reports to include information as to whether an accident was caused by a driver suffering an epileptic seizure or diabetic coma. The NC Division of Motor Vehicles would be responsible for evaluating whether the driver can safely operate a motor vehicle after receiving the report.

Rep. Josh Dobson introduced a proposed committee substitute in the House Transportation Committee on April 25, 2017. The proposed committee substitute changes the license revocation portion of the bill.

This proposed committee substitute was debated among the House Transportation, but received a favorable report.

This bill will move to the House Judiciary III Committee.
