What is NCMS PAC?
NCMS PAC is a voluntary, non-profit, unincorporated committee organized to direct financial support to state and federal political candidates in North Carolina. As a political action committee, NCMS PAC complies with all state and federal campaign laws. The committee is comprised of two branches, NCMS PAC-State and NCMS PAC-Federal, which together constitute the political action arm of the North Carolina Medical Society.

Who is NCMS PAC parent entity?
NCMS PAC parent entity is the North Carolina Medical Society. The NCMS provides the professional staff and office facilities required to maintain MEDPAC.

Who may join NCMS PAC?
NCMS PAC membership is open to any individual who wishes to invest financially. It is important to note, however, that NCMS PAC staff may solicit investments only from NCMS members.

Where do NCMS PAC dollars go?
All funds raised by are invested in political races in North Carolina.

Is a NCMS PAC contribution tax deductible?
No. Contributions made to a political action committee are not tax deductible and must be made by personal funds and/or post-tax dollars.

Does NCMS PAC publicly endorse candidates?
No, it is the policy of the NCMS not to publicly endorse political candidates.

Who decided which candidates receive NCMS PAC support?
Physicians decide who NCMS PAC supports. All NCMS PAC contributions are approved by the NCMS PAC Board of Directors which is a 20-member board comprised of politically active physicians from across the state of NC. The NCMS Government Affairs staff researches each legislative district in NC and makes contribution recommendations to the Board based on the following criteria - positions on issues important to medicine, electability (district demographics), and local physician involvement/support.

Does NCMS PAC often invest in several candidates in the same race?
Historically, the NCMS PAC Board of Directors has been very reluctant to invest in more than one candidate in the same race. If it is an open race (no incumbent), NCMS PAC might invest in both primaries, hoping that a friend of the NCMS will be successful in at least one primary.

Which political party does NCMS PAC support?
NCMS PAC is not affiliated with any political party. The program and platform of the individual candidates, Board recommendations, and local physician involvement determine whom NCMS PAC supports – not the candidate's party affiliation.

Is NCMS PAC a success?
Yes, NCMS PAC has a proven track record. Since its inception in 1973, NCMS PAC has supported thousands of candidates for the North Carolina General Assembly and US Congress. NCMS PAC is one of the largest political action committees in North Carolina.

How much money can I contribute to the NCMS PAC?
A contributor may not give more than $4000 per election to a state PAC. Therefore, if there is a primary, second primary or 'run-off,' and general election, the contributor may give $4000 through the day of the primary, and additional $4000 through the day of the run-off only if the PAC is contributing in the run-off, and $4000 from the day after the primary through the general election.

How much can the NCMS PAC give to a candidate?
A state PAC is limited to contributing $4,000 per candidate per election. These elections include primary, second primary or 'runoff,' and general elections.
