Opioid Convictions Legislative Task Force Report

The Task Force on Sentencing Reforms for Opioid Drug Convictions met on December 3, 2018. Rep. Greg Murphy, MD (R-Pitt) chaired this committee and provided an overview of the committee’s report.

Recommendation 1: NC should allow some judicial discretion in the sentencing of trafficking in opium and heroin.

Recommendation 2: Further study is necessary to examine reducing sentences already imposed for trafficking convictions.

Recommendation 3: NC should expand drug courts.

Recommendation 4: NC should support TROSA’s mission.

The report recommendations were approved and will be sent to the NC General Assembly.
