No Helmets for Those Over Age 21

HB 91 – Require Safety Helmets for Those Under 21

Primary Sponsors: Rep. John Torbett (R – Gaston), Rep. Michael Speciale (R – Craven)

SB 66 – Require Safety Helmets for Those Under 21

Primary Sponsor: Sen. Wesley Meredith (R – Cumberland)

This bill has been filed in both the House and Senate. It intends to revise the NC motor vehicle laws to allow individuals over the age of 21 to operate and ride motorcycles and mopeds without a helmet. Individuals under the age of 21 would still be required to wear a helmet. NCMS opposes this bill due to the increased risk of potential head injuries if passed.
