Senator Phil Berger (R, Guilford-Rockingham), the presumptive Senate President Pro-Tem, spent more than two hours speaking with physicians from the Greensboro and High Point areas on January 13th at the Proximity Hotel. Throughout the evening, the Senator pressed upon his new majority’s plan for no new taxes and discussed the Senate’s 2011 legislative priorities which include medical malpractice reform.
One week later, Representative Thom Tillis (R, Mecklenburg), the presumptive Speaker of the House, welcomed a crowd of nearly 70 physicians at the Charlotte Marriott SouthPark on January 19th to discuss his priorities for the approaching session and also spent time explaining his plans for the upcoming redistricting process. Representative Tillis spoke in great detail about the State’s looming budget deficit and praised Doctors for their role in saving the State of North Carolina money with programs like Community Care of NC (CCNC).
