For more than 18 months, the North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS) and the NCMS Foundation have engaged in state efforts to develop Regional Extension Centers (REC) offering technical assistance and a statewide Health Information Exchange (HIE). Additional information and resources are available http://healthIT.nc.gov.
NCMS Member John Torontow, MD, Associate Medical Director for Medical Informatics at Piedmont Health Services in Siler City, made a presentation to the Durham-Orange County Medical Society on August 11 that overviewed state efforts to assist medical practices with Electronic Health Record (EHR) implementation. Dr. Torontow provided a straightforward look at why medical practices should implement an EHR and how it benefits practice operations, payment, and patient care.
