Information about donating and volunteering to help victims of the Haiti earthquake:

Durham-based Family Health Ministries (FHM) is posting information and updates on its website, www.familyhm.org. FHM operates two medical clinics, one school and an orphanage in three Haitian communities. The program was founded by David K. Walmer, MD, PhD, chief of reproductive endocrinology at Duke University Medical Center.

AMURT (Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team) operates a clinic in Haiti and is providing medical care using a variety of medical professional volunteers. Some church-based organizations are supporting relief efforts. Horne Memorial United Methodist Church in Clayton, NC has been collecting medical supplies and equipping and shipping them to Haiti.  More details at http://www.hornememorial.org/.

At the NCMS, we continually ask members for their opinions and to share their experiences about the practice of medicine.  We care what you think!  This data helps the NCMS to represent members and advocate effectively on their behalf, both here in North Carolina and in our nation’s capitol.  Health system reform is the number one topic in the United States Congress today. Both the House of Representatives and the Senate have passed legislation to reform the system. Inconsistencies in the two bills necessitate that Congress resolve the differences through a conference process. As an NCMS member, it is urgent that we receive your feedback as we work for you in Washington.

The 2010 NCMS Member Calendar, featuring the winning photographs from this year’s Photo Contest, is ready just in time for the holidays! The calendar features images from the 2009 Photo Contest, with sumbissions by NCMS member physicians, PAs, and medical students. The Model Medical Staff Bylaws provide approaches for medical staffs to consider when faced with the challenges of compliance with the many laws, regulations, and standards governing medical staff bylaws.

This document will only be available online through the Members-only section of the website and will also be accessible through the Physician Hospital Resource Area.  These Model Bylaws will be updated as laws, rules, standards, policies, etc. change, and we will alert members to substantive changes in the NCMS weekly Bulletin.
