To be reimbursed by a federal program, physicians must be credentialed with Medicare and Medicaid. This information can be obtained online:

In North Carolina, there is a standard credentialing application for the managed care organizations. It generally takes several months to go through the managed care application process. Managed care organizations may open and close their panels and may not accept new physicians in certain geographic areas. The standard credentialing application is available on the NC Department of Insurance website.
