Physicians Information & Advocacy Issues

The past few years have seen an unprecedented movement toward creating quality measurements that will lead to greater change with the health care system and to improved care for patients.

At the 2006 NCMS Annual Meeting, the Medical Society gathered a number of national and local experts to report on how physicians and their practices can become better prepared to face emergencies, from a natural disaster to a flu pandemic. 2006 Recap on Medical Liability Reform - The NCMS continued to work toward meaningful medical liability reform. Although the General Assembly's leadership chose not to take action on this issue in 2006, the NCMS and its member physicians have continued to work with members of the General Assembly to improve understanding of the issue and to promote reforms that will make a tangible improvements in the excessive cost of the system. The NCMS worked with other organizations promoting medical liability reform to have four separate reform measures recommended by the House Select Committee on Health Care. Four bills containing these reforms were introduced in the House in 2006.
