Welcome to the Resident-Fellow Section of the North Carolina Medical Society!
As your section co-Chairs, we would like to share with you the many opportunities available to you through membership in the NCMS. Whether you are interested in health policy, mentorship connections, social networking, leadership, or community service, the RFS offers these experiences and more. Currently we offer FREE membership for residents when registered through individual residency programs. We also host quarterly social events for residents, fellows, medical students and their significant others to meet and unwind. In addition, we sponsor representatives at local, state and national health policy events including the NCMS Annual Meeting in Raleigh and the American Medical Association Annual and Interim Meetings.
Please keep an eye out for information on upcoming events and feel free to contact us for more details.
We look forward to meeting you!

Free Membership for Resident / Fellow Groups
Residents are already dealing with stressors such as heavy workloads, long work hours, and a lack of time. The NCMS and the county medical societies provide a solid package of benefits, services, and support, as well as FREE membership to resident groups. Research indicates significant changes in physicians’ participation in organized medicine over the past several years, and we want to raise awareness of efforts regarding the following issues relevant to residents:
- Medical student debt relief
- Online physician profiling (especially for new doctors)
- Post-training placement
Exclusive Resident / Fellow Member Benefits
- FREE online subscription to the NCMS Bulletin and North Carolina Medical Journal
- Networking opportunities such as the county membership meetings and the Women’s Physician Section
- Leadership development opportunities
- Legislative Days for residents to learn to advocate for their patients and their profession
